Mother’s Day in 2022 is Sunday, May 8. It is a day to celebrate motherhood and show appreciation for mothers, including grandmothers, stepmothers, adoptive mothers, and other mother figures. If you’re thinking about making her feel special, take Mother’s Day as an opportunity to tell her how important she is to you and the world. Do not forget to give a gift to that mother figure, whatever it is, send her a card, take her to dinner or buy her some beautiful flowers to show her how special she is and join us in educating the community in general about how mothers are affected by HIV.
HIV can be transmitted from mother to child at any time during pregnancy, childbirth, and lactation. This is called perinatal transmission. Advances in HIV research, prevention, and treatment have made it possible for many women with HIV to give birth to HIV-free babies. The annual number of HIV infections through perinatal transmission in the United States and dependent areas has declined by more than 95% since the early 1990s.
Several expert groups on pregnancy in women living with HIV have developed guidelines that provide information on appropriate care and treatment for women living with HIV who are pregnant or may become pregnant.
