The month of May ends one day after commemorating Memorial Day. This day is also considered the unofficial beginning of summer in the United States and gives way to June when LGBTQ Pride is celebrated.  High Impacto is using this space to honor all the people who sacrificed to preserve all of the freedoms that Americans currently enjoy. We are also welcoming south Florida summer visitors, especially those visiting the city of Wilton Manors in Broward County. A city that respects people’s freedom regardless of race or ethnicity, religion, country of origin, gender, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Wilton Manors honors everyone who respects the individual freedom for which our patriots died and for whom “Memorial Day” exists today.

Jennifer M. Granholm at a Memorial Day celebration said: “Ceremonies are important. But our gratitude has to be more than visits to the troops, and once-a-year Memorial Day ceremonies. We honor the dead best by treating the living well”. As this famous quote from the U.S. Secretary of Energy puts it, High Impacto is honoring the fallen by helping those who are still alive. While during Memorial Day weekend you visit soldier’s graves, participate in annual events honoring this day, and enjoy family bonding with summer activities and moments of romantic intimacy with your stable partners or occasional partners, we believe it is important that before and after these activities we check our health, not only our sexual health by getting tested for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, but also trying to do a checkup of our overall health.

High Impacto is aware that to honor our heroes by helping our community, we should not do it just one day but throughout the year. That’s why we’re incorporating more sites where we can interact with the community that needs health care in general.  We are celebrating with great enthusiasm that High Impacto, on this Memorial Day weekend, began leading the Sacks Thrift Avenue and ART Frenzie “Visitor Welcome Center” located at 2330 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, FL 33305. This activity is a result of the alliance between High Impacto and these two businesses. The partnership benefits Wilton Manors residents, visitors to those two businesses, or those who walk down Wilton Drive and approach the High Impacto table. The Welcome Center offers High Impacto the opportunity for our team to provide education on HIV and AIDS prevention and offer comprehensive support services such as Free Health Insurance not only to the LGBTQ community but also to anyone who contacts us and requests our services.

Thank you for honoring our heroes and remember that you can contact High Impacto through our social media outlets @highimpacto, calling 954-947-3603, or email info@highimpacto.org. Now we leave you with a few words taken from our partnership with Sacks Thrift Avenue and ART Frenzie: “We are pleased to join together in this alliance benefiting the residents of Wilton Manors and Broward County with the services that High Impacto offers with vitality. Likewise, this initiative best serves the public, and together we will make a difference”-Michael Dan and Alejandro Quintero Owners of Sack Thrift Avenue
