It’s summer and most likely students are sleeping after a party, enjoying a full day of watching movies on Netflix or going to the beach to work on that tan. Maybe even remembering their early years of school or college. Maybe someone will be missing going back to school! So, enjoy this summer vacation while it lasts, but also remember all the fun and adventures that await you now that you return to “High School”, “college” or university.

Many people will feel anxious and happy to start meeting other people with the same common interests and specialties and perhaps they want to make those important connections. Now that a new school year is upon us, it’s time to make some big plans! Join clubs, get a job on campus, apply for a seat on a board of directors, and much more. And of course, prepare to enjoy your next years. Some people will wonder how to get back to school after the holidays. High Impacto recommends the following:

Plan the return, recover the rhythm gradually, define a study schedule, focus on your goal, eliminate unnecessary distractions, reward your effort, balance study rest, get vaccinated, and have general medical exams and those necessary to diagnose sexually transmitted diseases among other activities. Rates of sexually transmitted infections have increased for the fourth consecutive year in the United States. While young people (aged 15 to 24) only make up a quarter of the sexually active population, they account for half of all new cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea, genital warts, and HIV.

You can remain sexually healthy before, during, and after your new year of study by taking appropriate steps to protect yourself before you start it. You can use strategies like abstinence (not having sex), never sharing needles, and using condoms the right way every time you have sex. At High Impacto, we help prevent HIV, not only during the school season but also during every season of the year. We promote and provide HIV testing. We’re giving the community at large the different prevention tools like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP), and if you have HIV, we help you get your treatment so that it remains undetectable. Undetectable equals being untransmittable (U=U). We also offer free health insurance!

For more information about our free health insurance and HIV prevention programs, contact us at info@highimpacto.org and by phone at 954-947-3603. Enjoy going back to school after the summer break, use a condom, start PrEP with either the daily pills or the monthly injection, and stay in treatment!
