Since 2019 we are achieving our goals related to increased HIV testing, linkage to care and access to PrEP (the pill that prevents HIV). We are part of the “Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE)” initiative in the United States. We also provide HIV prevention education to all members of the community, including educational materials and condoms. All services are free and consistent with local, state and national policy and all services are not related to immigration offices.
During 2020 we notice the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic and how it has renewed attention on health insurance coverage as millions have lost their jobs and potentially their health coverage. Previously to the pandemic, Kaiser Family Foundation had published that many uninsured people cite the high cost of insurance as the main reason they lack coverage. In 2019, 73.7% of uninsured adults said that they were uninsured because the cost of coverage was too high. Many people do not have access to coverage through a job, and some people, particularly poor adults in states that did not expand Medicaid, remain ineligible for financial assistance for coverage. Additionally, undocumented immigrants face huge challenges accessing health coverage.
Now in 2023, High Impacto is offering free health insurance under our initiative called HEALTH GUARDIANS for those who are HIV-negative and willing to enroll and stay in our PrEP program regardless of their immigration status. Our Health insurance program offers free medical care which include Primary Care Physician, Specialists, Prescriptions, HIV Preventive Treatment, and Paid Insurance Premiums. We are expanding our tele PrEP services to other states of our country and New York is our geographical area where we are planning to start with this pilot program. The expansion will be implemented along with our “Health Ambassadors” Program. Our Health Ambassadors are the face of High Impacto in those areas of expansion. Health Ambassadors (Individuals and Organizations) are spreading High Impacto messages about PrEP by engaging continuously and beneficially with their local community and their Social Network.
This growth will allow us to provide more tele PrEP services, supported by a lab for at-home, self-collected HIV-prevention screening. The self-collected screening use unique distribution and specimen collection methods that open access to medical testing where geographic, financial, and stigma barriers once created gaps in care. This integrated care approach can reduce transmission of HIV; improve health outcomes in our communities, and prevent, identify, and treat HIV co-infections and co-morbidities, such as sexually transmitted infections and substance use disorders.
